My Baby's Vain

Story Behind The Song

I've always been amazed at the amount of time and money my wife spends on looking good. From a man's view, we would never spend that much time or money on such vain things. However, in our society it is expected from the woman. Asking the question why seemed to bring an indirect response from women that said they were looking for attention. I've never had so much fun bouncing the words of this song off of friends and acquaintances.   The melody was created on the keyboard in around 30 minuets. I had the melody of the chorus running in my head prior to that. Lyrics were created over several weeks. At the time I wrote this song, I had spent more time working on this song than any one song in my past.

Verse 1
(Man)
Why does my baby doll, got to have it all?
Diamonds & Rings, and all those fancy things
Why so much pain, just to be vain?
Wearing panty hose, and painting your toes
(Woman)
Attention is what I want, when I strut & flaunt
If you want to be my guy, you gotta catch my eye
Attention is what pays, in a woman's world today.
Help me live my dream, watch me plot and scheme
Chorus
(Man)
My baby's vain, she likes to play games
(Woman)
You know I'm red hot, you like that a-lot
You'll say "That baby's mine.", when I'm looking fine.
(Man)
So I guess I'm to blame, that's why my baby's vain.
Talk 1: (Just Drums)
(Woman) Honey, am I really that vain?
(Man) Yeh baby, you drive me insane.
Talk 2: (Just Drums)
(Woman) Honey, am I really that vain?
(Man) Nah baby, you got me trained.
Verse 2
(Woman)
That night on the ground, when we fooled around
You messed up my hair, and rubbed my face bare
Makeup and lip stick, makes your ticker tick
I dress to impress, expect nothing less
(Man)
Baby I love you plain, like Tarzan loves Jane.
Sometimes less is best, take off that fancy dress
Natural is cool, and baby you rule
Your a little cutie, show your inner beauty
Bridge
(Man & Woman)
I know it's superficial to be so artificial
But it's so fun to be, full of vanity
