Story Behind The Song
My Dad had a sign made several years ago that he placed at the front of the property that reads "Call Of The River". Shortly after that my Dad came down with Alzheimer's. About 10 years later while he was still alive, I wrote this song. This song is dedicated to my Dad: Dempsey Thomas. I love you dad and I share your love for the river.
Creating the song: The chorus (lyrics & melody) was created on the guitar at the Nantahala river at my parents' outdoor kitchen next to the river. The verses were written at Einstein Bros bagel shop in Atlanta by Powersferry without an instrument. The melody for the verses was created a capello while driving.
Song Description
I've been cooped in this city all week long; I gotta get out on the river where I belong. The Nantahala River's rapids are calling me to play with a kayak, funyak (ducky), open boat (canoe) or watch the rafts and have some laughs.

Verse 1
I've been cooped in this city all week long.
Got to get out on the river where I belong.
Lay it all aside, hangout and hide
I feel the Call of the Nantahala the River.
Chorus
I feel the call of the Nantahala river, it's calling me today
I feel the call of the Nantahala rapids, their calling me to play
At Pattons, Touble Dry, and Pop-n-Run
Pyramid, Delabar, Quarry and Root Canal
Whirlpool, Ledges and Surfing Rapids
The Bump, and Nantahala Falls.
Verse 2
Gotta grab my open boat and do a run.
Or take my funyak out and have some fun
or watch the rafts and have ... some laughs.
I feel the Call of the Nantahala the River.
Verse 3
Gonna surf, flip and roll at the falls.
Eddy in, peel out, trash and have a ball.
When I loose hope, I'll just catch a throw rope.
I feel the Call of the Nantahala the River.
Bridge
Can't wait, won't be late, Gotta go now, somehow
It's in my bones, I'll be gone to the Nantahala River
