Take Me Home

Story Behind The Song

Several years ago, I developed an unexplainable fear of flying. The fear of death has this strange characteristic of inspiring religious thought. As I was hovering at 32,000 feet gripped with panic, I realized that if the passengers were actually in a life or death situation, the only faith-based song everyone would know is Amazing Grace. While a great song, it won't do much to explain the saving faith we can have in Jesus Christ. I composed this song to contain all the elements of the sinner's prayer in an easy to sing repetitive structure. While my performance modulates to harmonic variations, each verse can be sung to the relatively simple melody found at the beginning of the song. The intent of this song is to become an easy way to remember the precepts of Jesus' saving grace.

Song Description

In this stylized blues-based hymn, the singer confidently lays out his faith line by line, and expresses a laid-back assurance that Jesus' love will ultimately take him home.

Lyrics

TAKE ME HOME
Words & Music by Stephen Springfield

CHORUS:
TAKE ME HOME, TAKE ME HOME
On the wings of Jesus? love
In His death my sins atoned
Unto Him my soul belongs

VERSE:
With a sinful heart and hands
On His grace alone I stand
With no means to pay the price
Cleanse me with the Blood of Christ

CHORUS:
TAKE ME HOME, TAKE ME HOME
On the wings of Jesus? love
In His death my sins atoned
Unto Him my soul belongs

VERSE:
Like the thief upon the cross
Time on earth may now be lost
In His death, I am set free
Born to live eternally

CHORUS:
TAKE ME HOME, TAKE MEHOME
On the wings of Jesus? love
In His death my sins atoned
Unto Him my soul belongs

VERSE:
As I lift my voice in song
and proclaim that I?ve been wrong
With the pow?r His Spirit gives
I believe that Jesus lives

CHORUS:
TAKE ME HOME, TAKE MEHOME
On the wings of Jesus? love
In His death my sins atoned
Unto Him my soul belongs

VERSE:
May my heart forever be,
In love with You because You first loved me
By what you?ve done, not what I do
Unto death I?ll trust in You

CHORUS:
TAKE ME HOME, TAKE ME HOME
On the wings of Jesus? love
In His death my sins atoned
Unto Him my soul belongs
