Story Behind The Song
The song was written when Debbie's grandmother was dying. Lots of thoughts about seaprating from those we love, knowing that it is inevitable, and important - but wishing we could just wait a little longer -- maybe next week -
Song Description
A woman recalls the times in life that we must "leave" our mother: going to school the first time, moving away when getting married. Finally, she recalls when her mother is dying, and it is the mother's turn to leave too soon. Now she understands why mother wanted her to stay just one more week. The cycle of bonding and then inevitably leaving is complete.

Lyrics
In A Week (I'll Be Stronger)
V1: The yellow school bus
Pulled up at my door
First time I'd been away
From home that far
I felt so grown up
In my new clothes and braids
Mama hugged my closed to her,
And softly she said,
CH: You really must go
This much I know
But I wish you could stay awhile longer
Why don't you go
In a week or so
In a week, I'll be stronger.
V2: The old moving van
Was waiting outside
Ready to take away
This husband and wife
We felt all those mem'ries
In each other's eyes
Mama held me close to her
And softly she sighed:
CH: You really must go
This much I know
But I wish you could stay awhile longer
Why don't you go
In a week, or so
In a week, I'll be stronger.
V3: The years passed on by.
The kids have all grown.
Mama never left my heart
While out on my own.
I flew to her side -
They said it was time,
I hugged her close to me,
And softly I cried:
CH: You really must go
This much I know
But I wish you could stay awhile longer
Why don't you go
In a week, or so.
In a week, I'll be stronger.
In a week,
I'll be stronger.
