Story Behind The Song
Came from listening to an old Van Morrison tune on the radio. Morphed from there based on the idea that all some people have left of their former hopes and dreams are images of what might have been, on which they brood over and over . Sartre meets The Eagles...
Song Description
A man finds himself without love as he drives the highways of the country, abandoned by the woman he had loved. It was their mutual dream that he would work on the road to make them a nest egg, but the irony is that she abandoned him because he was always gone, and he is stuck doing the very thing he did in the first place so that they could be together. All he has to show for his efforts is a crumbling old picture of his former love.

Lyrics
V1.
It's windswept and empty
Out on this road
My haul is heavy
I feel ragged and old
Been runnin' the highway
Four, five years long
I once had a reason
I once heard a song
Chorus:
Torn, faded
Dog-eared, and degraded
All I have left when my day is through
Is this picture of you
V2.
Farms, fields, and forests
The beautiful Earth
Seem hollow and arid
Go by in a blur
Your hands held promise
Faith shone in your eyes
But gone is forgotten
No sweet goodbyes
Chorus
Bridge:
There are nights when I'll stop near the canyon
And caught in the spell of the desert moon's glow
I'll miss you so
Chorus
Fade:
All I have left is this picture of you...
