Story Behind The Song
I wrote this song about a homeless Vietnam Vet I got drunk with at the "Wall" memorial in D.C...........He kept repeating the phrase...."if she came back I'd be good!" I kept thinking the "she" was a chick........it was later that I learned that the "she" he was referring to was the war itself.

Soldier?s Song
This morning I woke up on the street again, oh the avenue, is my home
I had a job once, I had a wife, `long came the war you see, and it screwed up my life
And if she came back I?d be good, if she came back I?d be good
And if she came back, if she came back, I?d be good
Oh, I know that I would
Kind-hearted handouts, and thrown out shoes, only a blanket to my name
Hell, I?m yesterday?s news
But I keep my eyes opened wide and I always smile
Cause there?s a light burnin somewhere baby, deep down inside
And if she came back I?d be good, if she came back I?d be good
And if she came back, if she came back, I?d be good
Oh, I know that I would
And if she came back I?d be good, if she came back I?d be good
And if she came back, if she came back, I?d be good
Oh, I know that I would
If I had a way, I?d gladly wash my soul, oh but I don?t have one
And now my blood runs cold
And if you see me, don?t shun me, without your asking I fought for you
I ain?t asking you to fight for me
And if she came back I?d be good, if she came back I?d be good
And if she came back, if she came back, I?d be good
Oh, I know that I would
This morning I woke up on the street again
