Story Behind The Song
Born Maria do Carmo Miranda da Cunha on February 9, 1909 in Marco de Canavezes, Portugal, her family moved to Brazil when she was two. Carmen came to the US in 1939 and became one of the most popular artists in the US, acting in films, appearing on television and on the stages of Las Vegas' casinos and night-clubs. Carmen only returned to Brazil for two brief visits; the first one in 1940 - when she was accused by some of being "Americanized". The second visit occurred in 1954, a few months before her death. Watch a movie with Carmen Miranda. She was so full of life and truly lit up the screen.

Lyrics
Carmen Miranda
Your eyes light up the screen
when you smile
Your wiggling Samba
Has managed to transform me
for awhile
And Carmen Miranda
Did your homeland claim
that you?d forsaken your name?
And Carmen Miranda
I can hear your Mama say?.
Carmen Miranda
Your mama said don?t go and
marry that boy
The way that he touched you
did rob your eyes of all you?d
been given forth
And Carmen Miranda
Did homeland say that you?d
forsaken your name
And Carmen Miranda
I can hear your mama say
It?s time to come home
It?s time to come home Carmen
Time to come home
Time to come home Carmen
repeat
