Story Behind The Song

I was writing a novella about Michelangelo and I pictured him near the end of his life. His sculptures were not coming out right time after time and he was sure he was losing his power to create magical sculptures that he had created so easily before. He goes to a church service without really thinking that he will find relief there. He is on the back standing up and suddenly a little child starts to sing one perfect note. This note pierces his numbness and it melts into overwhelming grief and he cries so hard that the people turn around to see him. He was completely unprepared for it.They shake their heads. They think he is a little crazy but they forgive him his outburst knowing that sometimes artists feel things a little too much.

Lyrics

Sing

How long have I been numb?
Emotionally deaf and dumb
When did my feelings disappear?

You came in like nothing's wrong
Play your guitar and sing your songs
I feel the trickle of strange tears

Sing
Sing and make me whole
Sing
Heal my immortal soul
Don't be alarmed if teardrops fall
It's been too long since I could cry at all
or make myself feel anything
Sing

I go to church to find relief for my soul
The empty words seem hollow
Over my head I let them flow

A little child stands above the crowd
Fills his lungs and he cries out loud
A healing melody washes those below

Sing
Sing and make me whole
Sing
Heal my immortal soul

Don't be alarmed if teardrops fall
Its been too long since I could cry at all
Or make myself care about anything
Sing

I thought I was beyond the reach
And this madness could conceal me

Who would have thought that a simple note
of love could heal me

Sing
Sing and make me whole
Sing
Heal my immortal soul

Don't be alarmed if teardrops fall its been
too long since I could cry at all
Or make myself care about anything
Sing
