The Walking Salamander

Story Behind The Song

Written as an exploration of the single Blues scene, the song is set to an up-tempo country feel and demo'd on a 4 - track home studio with vocal and guitar composition.

Song Description

This is a song about the guy who only gets the girl when He wants to. Women love to hate him and he's not going to commit to any of them, he'd rather drink late and play the blues. He's a mans' man. "walking salamander" uses the metaphor to personify just how smooth and slick this operator really is (see the trail of love he leaves as he sidles out the door). There is a warning to any woman who has her eyes on him - LOOKOUT BARFLY ! He's not interested in "love and stuff", so get involved with him if you dare. The song is written in the first person from the point of view of an observer.

Lyrics

he's an educated single guy
ignorance on fire
people come from miles around to watch his funeral pyre

chorus

he stays out late and he drinks too much
only thinks of playing the blues
he's a real fine lover but dont you blow his cover
cause this aint no night for standing in queues

he's an eighteen carat solitaire
a burning ring of fire
he's every daddy's nightmare
he's broke an he's a liar

chorus

well he's a walking salamander
a lizard to the core
see the trail of love he leaves
as he sidles out the door

instrumental

so you better look out barfly
dont let him in your head
dont waste your time with love n stuff
he's a bluesman till he's dead

he stays out late and he drinks too much
only thinks of playing the blues
he'' be a real fine lover underneath your covers
but dont you spend a night in his shoes

he's a walking salamander
a lizard to the core
see the trail of love he leaves as he sidles out the door

watch him sidle out the door

walking salamander
yeah thats right thats what you call him
all you girls know what i'm talking about
