Hello Pork Pie Hat

Story Behind The Song

I wanted to put my own spin on Mingus' Good Bye Pork Pie Hat - a tribute to Lester Young. I'm trying to introduce both of those giants to a new generation - hence the title "Hello Pork Pie Hat" title. The Funk/Jazz vamp in the middle section is the celebration of their works. Mingus' form is too long for an introduction to Jazz - so, I've chopped it a bit to keep it simpler.

Lyrics

There was a giant jazz man
who always wore his hat man
A black fedora port-pie
He always saw to that

Lester Young is being disovered
once again!
Say hello to port pie hat man!
