My favorite subject - ME!
Most important is what I write about - I write about people and their relationships - the sublime and the painful. Many of my songs focus on the darker side of life because for so many, it's so hard to find a light switch - and it's for them that I write. I write about my own emotional struggles, my relationships, and my dreams -
I believe in musicianship, honest lyrics, and originality.
As for my so called musical life -
Well I started playing classical piano as a child, but quickly gravitated towards the guitar and started playing in cover bands in the 8th grade - with unfortunate names like Silk and Steel and The Shrubs. The Shrubs were instrumental in developing musical skills on everything from Led Zeppelin and Rush to the Indigo Girls and R.E.M.
I continued studying classical music and spent one year as a music major at the University of Georgia - but soon found myself out of school and playing regular shows as a singer/songwriter at local bars in downtown Athens, GA.
In 1997, I reunited with my ex-Shrub drummer and started a new progressive rock band called Sight Unseen. that became a mainstay in Athens.
Since moving to Atlanta in 2001, I have put back my singer-songwriter shoes and become a regular performer at the mecca of songwriting in the southeast - Eddie's Attic, winning, placing, or showing at several open mic competitions.
