Emerging from the thickets of medical school at the University of Washington, Michal Whiton wasted no time embarking on a new journey: recording her first solo album. Whiton began writing songs during medical school as a way to relax after classes and have balance in her life.

The richness of Whiton's stunning voice often draws a comparison to Natalie Merchant. Although, Merchant's songs are often tinged with an air of melancholy, where Whiton maintains a sweet, almost innocently hopeful quality in her music that is communicated even when her subject matter strays into dark territory.

Whiton's songs are snapshots that perfectly capture the emotions of a given moment. Love, loss, devotion, tragedy, hope, and redemption. She takes these universal ideals and brings them to life through her own experiences and observations, which make her songs instantly accessible to listeners.

Bio

Emerging from the thickets of medical school at the University of Washington, Michal Whiton wasted no time embarking on a new journey; forging through the dense undergrowth of pre-production in preparation for the recording of her first solo album -- all the while adapting to her new role as a first-year resident physician. Whiton began writing songs during medical school as a way to relax after classes and have balance in her life.

Produced by Casey Miller (Brad Walters, Ala Zingara, Jam on White Bread), and featuring contributions from a wide range of local musicians, the album (due out 2006) showcases Whiton's songwriting skills and prodigious vocal talent. The richness of Whiton's stunning voice often draws a comparison to Natalie Merchant. Her emotional impact, however, is far more reminiscent of Sting or even U2. While even Merchant's upbeat songs are often tinged with an air of melancholy, Whiton maintains a sweet, almost innocently hopeful quality in her music that is communicated even when her subject matter strays into dark territory.

Perhaps Michal's medical background gives her a unique perspective on the range of humanity. Her songs are snapshots that perfectly capture the emotions of a given moment. Love, loss, devotion, tragedy, hope, and redemption. Whiton takes these universal ideals and brings them to life through her own experiences and observations. In this way Michal's songs, though deeply personal, are instantly accessible to listeners who can easily find meaning that relates to their own lives.

Whiton's creative and technical sides create a unique wholeness that is making Michal Whiton fans out of listeners and patients alike.
