Kim Norlen is a singer-songwriter from Oakland, California who crafts succinct, rhythmic spaces and fills them with intricate guitar and first-hand observation. She has two self-released solo albums on her Red Science label, both recorded in Portland, Oregon. The Green Door, featuring Rachel Blumberg (The Decembrists, Norfolk & Western) on drums and folk rocker Jeff London on bass, was recorded by Adam Selzer (M. Ward, Tracker) at Type Foundry in 2001. Larry Crane (Quasi, Sleater-Kinney, Elliott Smith) produced her previous work And at Jackpot! in 1998.

In the mid 1990s Kim co-fronted the band Rattlecake, releasing titles on Cavity Search Records, appearing several years at SXSW, and performing with seminal northwest groups like Pond and Heatmiser. Kim grew up in Portland playing violin and guitar, and listening to community radio.
