There's a reason it's called, "Pop" music - it's "popular" music. There's a reason it's popular - catchy hooks, hummable melodies, resonant themes.

Kelly's songs sound simple, and they are - until you start to break them down and piece them back together. Straight-forward pop songs are twisted and turned into tight curves of melodic yet syncopated progressions. She borrows from rock, blues, country, and gospel until the lines between the genres are crossed and crossed again. The results of this fusion are songs that pay homage to their musical roots while being firmly planted in the "pop" genre.

When you step back to view her overall body of work, the layers of rich complexity are revealed - she's as comfortable with guitar-driven rock as she is with a story-song, or a ballad.

Bio

Kelly uses her rich voice to evoke love, loss, and renewal. Her background - she was born in Mississippi and has traveled the world - provides her with a deep well from which to draw. Her work conveys a feeling of pragmatic optimism - joy of love and the price paid while reaching for happiness can be heard in songs like, "Your Soul", "Secret Lovers", and "It Catches Me Offguard".

You can taste the influence of the Deep South. There's a little Stevie Ray Vaughn in, "Everything Here Is Blue" and the foot-tapping, "Baby, That's Just Too Bad" harkens back to an early Elvis - pre-jumpsuit.

Her skills as a collaborator (with Earl C. Webb) shine on "You Don't Know How Much I Want To Believe", a song that succinctly describes the yearning for connection while still tending to the wounds of lost love.

Sexy, jazzy "I Have Been Looking For You" has enjoyed the number one spot at www.broadjam.com Earth, Pop, and Pop Easy Listening Top Tens. Kelly has collaborated with fellow Broadjammer, Earl C. Webb, on the tunes, "Love Me Please" and "You Don't Know How Much I Want To Believe", which has enjoyed time on numerous Broadjam Top Ten lists.

Influences

Kelly has a rich, deep, distinct voice. But if you had to describe it in terms of other artists, imagine the smoothness of k.d. lang, the breadth of Annie Lennox, the directness of Rickie Lee Jones, and the fluidness of Sheryl Crow, with a little Adele thrown in for that low growl.

Hi Kelly,
Thank you so much for a very kind review of Homesick. Such encouraging words, you've made my day for sure! I'm highly flattered that you hear a Joe Satriani influence but, although I know of his work, I'm not at all familiar with it. I was heavily into bands like Deep Purple and Santana so, because I'm knocking on a bit, I've probably picked up bits from all over.
Very fair comment about live drums but I don't really have access to them so make do with what my keyboard can produce.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, thank you for a great review and I'm off to listen to some of your songs.......

Hi Bob! Thanks for your note! You never know how someone will take a review, so I appreciate that. I really did like the song. I also think that there should be a category for Instrumentals. Oh well I think you'd like Joe Satriani. I could also hear Santana in there. Cheers!.
