Walk On

Walk On, the debut release from teen singer, songwriter, and guitar player Maren Morris, is one for the ages. Maren wrote or co-wrote eight of the tracks on the record, illustrating the diversity of her tastes and musical ability. Walk On uniquely combines country, blues, rock and even some Gospel, for a soulful blend of music for the true music listener. Producer Stephen Doster (Nancy Griffith/Double Trouble) helps channel her talent into what turns out to be an incredibly colorful journey through the songs. Doster says “I’ve heard Maren compared many times to other extraordinary singers. But there’s more to her story. She really has something to say, and that’s the most extraordinary thing of all.” The haunting melody of the cross-genre title cut "Walk On" rings in your head long after the song is over, leaving you wishing it wouldn’t end. "Better Days", a wistful yet positive track with a Gospel-country feel, shows off Maren’s clear, pleading vocals. "Girl I See" is a rocking’ anthem of realization and self-esteem, while "Thank You" is a heartfelt expression of gratitude to the one you love. With Lloyd Maines (Dixie Chicks) lending some steel guitar and Dobro on "Hit the Ground" (a fast-paced relationship kiss-off), "Popular Girl" (heart wrenching timely commentary), and rousing honky-tonk Buddy Miller cover "Help Wanted", it’s a country music dream. And Dick Sims (Eric Clapton) provides sweet accompaniment throughout with lots of the Hammond B3 he took on tour with Slowhand, as well as some Wurlitzer in exactly the right measure. Listen to the record and marvel.
