Bob van Pelt has been writing and performing songs since his early teens. Growing up in Belgium, he played in bands, toured, and released a single on national radio.
In '95 he came to NYC and joined pop-rock quartet The Lackadays, enjoying local success and releasing an album that got outstanding reviews.
Going solo in 1999, VANPELT's song "Only Theatre" was a finalist in Time Out New York’s Battle of the Bands of 2001.
Influenced by "anything from the 80s," and by songwriters like Michael Penn, Neil Finn, David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Beck, Elliot Smith and Aimee Mann, his songs range from moody and sarcastic, to (bitter) sweet.
At present, Bob is writing with lyricist Lisa Schalk, while playing around New York City, trying out new material and rapidly creating a dedicated following of people drawn by the eclectic lineup of songs, and his unique presence and voice.
One thing is certain: VANPELT never fails to write songs that will remain in your head long after you stop listening.
