Who, What, WEN

People fall in love, they also fall out of love. People go through hard times, and feel like they will live forever. People face temptations, and also feel so devoted to someone they could spend the rest of their life with the one they love. People experience a wide range of emotions - Wen puts them into song, with music to match.

Born and raised in Brisbane, Australia, Wen commenced piano lessons at an early age - something he continued for almost 20 years, cumulating in his A.Mus.A and L.Mus.A examinations. His knowledge of music theory allowed him to easily pick up more instruments in his teens, such as guitar, drums, bass and vocals. Wen's progress in songwriting and performing landed him the cultural award for vocal music in his senior year, as well as being award the subject prize for vocal music.

From his teenage years and beyond, Wen has played in various local bands and situations, honing his performance skills and landing support gigs which saw him play in bands to crowds of thousands. With the arrival of home based computer recording, Wen began tracking and developing his music; but his recording experience also extends to the stage, where he has performed on several live commercial recordings, as well as recently producing his own "Live At Soul Sessions" EP, singing and playing guitars and piano.

Wen's semi-autobiographical song "Best Thing" was awarded a 'Commended Entry' in the 2008 UK Songwriting Awards; the same song also progressed to the 2nd round of the 2008 Australian Songwriting Association competition.

Funded by a conglomerate of music styles, Wen delivers edgy pop/rock, bringing satisfaction to the listening ear. Tom-driven grooves, warm bass lines and crunchy guitars rip through on "When We Were First in Love": a retrospective look at not-too-young love, uncertain whether to burst into serious commitment, whilst trying to let go of past mistakes.

If the grooving guitars and driving drums are too much, Wen brings it all back to basics on "Susanna", a heart-wrenching account of deciding to end a loving but quickly declining relationship. Using his mastery of the piano, Wen provides a rich but effective accompaniment to a vocal line full of anguish and melancholy.

And of course there is "Best Thing", Wen's most awarded song. Combining determined overdriven guitars, syncopated drums and bass, and drawbar organ, Wen gets the chorus of this semi-autobiographical song stuck in your head!

With the awards starting to become more frequent, and the undying passion to perform, Wen looks firmly to the future.....adjust your hearing.
