Troy Schafer was born in Wausau, Wisconsin, studied orchestra education at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point and sound at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He is recognized for his violin-based solo works and sound installations as well as musical collaborations with Kinit Her, Wreathes, Burial Hex, Wormsblood, Rain Drinkers, Devotion, Spiral Joy Band and the Chagas Schafer duo
