Shecky Biography

A Member of ASCAP. Born and raised in the heart of Indiana cornfields, John "Shecky" Mills has become an inventive, diverse musician. John has developed his craft of bass playing into a melting pot that encompasses techniques and styles from multifarious genres. John's independent material features him, as "Shecky", playing guitar, bass, singing, writing lyrics, sequencing beats and music beds, and playing the piano. John has masterminded seven Shecky albums to date. With his thought-provoking, heart-felt beats, Shecky takes you to musical depths of which most people can only dream.

John's earliest exposure to music came from his family. At the age of eight, he was introduced to the piano, and through general progression, he eventually picked up the bass and found his soul. Throughout the 80's and 90's, John was heavily influenced by The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and countless others, as his preferred, funk style of music became more popular. John facilitated his music during this time in several punk and rock bands, including Anxiety Neurosis, Deadlock, Underworld Addictcs, Flyswater and Bluck.

John knew that his life would be spent in the music industry. The road to dreams, though, are often not well paved, and John found himself rerouting his plans many times. In 1994, he attended The Recording Workshop (TRW) in Chillicothe, Ohio, to study sound engineering. Eventually his course led him to the live sound market where he created much success for himself. He became a very talented live sound engineer, working with local touring acts, and freelanced with companies such as Indy Pro Audio, Tipton Sound and Lighting and Walt Disney.

After a few years on the road, John decided he wanted to focus once again on playing bass. In 1999, his course developed smoother pavement as he
designed and built his project studio (Shecky's House). It is there that he performs and records Shecky's solo works.

John's copious talent continues to evolve, as he takes his skills to new levels by distending into the role of songwriter, recording artist, engineer and producer. This Year promises to be the greatest season yet for John, as his career is catapulted to stimulated heights. The newest Shecky album, "From the Write Side of the Tracks" is now available here on the website, Amazon.com, iTunes, CD Baby, Napster and many other online stores. The addition of producing and recording artists and bands has opened up the new possibilities of SHK Records. A label in which many diverse types of music will be showcased.
