Michael Duncan is a master of melody line and "Lost For Words" is the proof.
This adult-contemporary album is laid back - retro, even - but Mr. Duncan
has the style and class to achieve maximum effect with the minimal touch of
rock here and there - just when you least expect it. Naaice.

The terrific vocals and skilled, sensitive production speaks volumes of dues paid and sheer
songwriting talent. (I find myself wondering what a collaboration between
Michael Duncan and Dave Matthews would sound like... ?)

Stand-out trax: "You" - so very pretty; "She's a 69" - fun, toe-tapping rock
'n roll; and "Lost For Words" - a simple, elegant masterpiece that could
easily be the theme track for the next great Hollywood romance movie. If
timeless adult-contemporary is your thing, Michael Duncan could be your new
favourite artiste.

Michael Duncan

started playing music back in about 1985. I didn't really have a clue, except that I knew I wanted to make music. For my birthday I bought myself a keyboard and at my birthday party I remember playing with the keyboard instead of attending to my guests.
I didn't really start writing music until a little later, and with absolutely no equipment besides my keyboard and a normal tape deck, I laid down the first version of 'Sailing Away'.
Along the way I met some other new musicians that were working on a studio House project. They heard my stuff that I was busy with and asked if I wanted to join them in their studio and help them with some of the arrangements. The band 'The Third Wave' was born. We were never designed to go out on a tour or perform live, but the record company insisted we get a complete band together and go on tour. After three intensive months of rehearsing, we eventually left, but due to our inexperience, the tour soon flopped. None of us were live musicians and our inexperience let us down.
Nevertheless, I pursued my musical interest and started doing one man band gigs all over the country. That got a bit boring after a few years and I joined up with one of the former members of the previous band and we did a duo thing together. That was quite successful and we wrote many songs together in my little garage studio. None of the material was released, but we persisted anyway, as we were having fun at the time.
Nothing really much happened for a few years besides doing four to eight gigs a week. I eventually met a girl by the name of Caz, and we rehearsed for a few months in the view of doing two piece gigs, but due to her circumstances beyond my controll, none of that materialized. A few years later, I joined Caz in Holland and became part of her band Cazmelion. Within a short time we had great success, playing the biggest venues around the country, and I gained a lot of stage experience and confidence in that time. The band split up due to numerous reasons, and I decided I had had enough of the music industry. Five years later however, the bug hit me again and I picked up my guitar and started rehearsing again. I joined another band and we played pubs and weddings.
The whole Dutch music just wasn't my scene, and I was missing my roots, so I decided to move back to South Africa.
Currently I am doing gigs around Johannesburg, but things have changed, and it's not as easy as I remembered.
Oh well, at least I'm having fun....
