About Me

My name is Marika Beckford I was born and raised in the (U.K) Birmingham. And I'm 19 years old. I'm currently studying Popular Music, Drama and Theatre Studies at Chester University.

SHOWCASE
I have a strong passion for music and natural ability to perform, which lead me to becoming champion of the 2004 Gifted Talent Showcase, which took place in my hometown. Since then I was represented by the founder of the Gifted Showcase, Errol Lawson and went on to entertain a variety of audiences in and around Birmingham.
Music has been around me all my life and my talent is a gift. I began singing, dancing and acting at the age of 5 years old studying at Betty Fox Stage School and have taken several LAMDA Exams.

TELEVISION
2006 I chosen to take part in the channel four Hit series ‘Chancers’ along with 7 other hopefuls battling it out to win a Sony contract and Tour with Beyonce, unfortunately I didn’t win the competition but being mentored By Mathew Knowles was an amazing experience, I was taught many valuable artistry skills from professionals like Amerie, Kelly Rowland and Vocal tutor Tom McQueen and song writer and producer, Trey Taylor.

INSPIRATION
I've been writing songs since the age of twelve, and find my inspiration for writing songs through different genres of music, such as Jazz, Classical, Hip-Hop, R ‘n’ B, Reggae and even Rock.

I do not limit myself to one particular style and I'm always willing to experiment with different sounds. Inspired by the likes of artist and bands such as Kanye West, Cold play, Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera, to Damien Rice and Joss stone my list is ever growing, as is my passion for my music, and I would hope one day to be an honoured veteran and influential figure of the music industry.
