In the early hours of August 10, 1976, the New England news channels were warning people to stay inside their houses, in order to avoid category 3 - Hurricane Belle. But Margarida and Joaquim Cabral couldn't stay home and rushed towards the Hospital. This is how Samuel Neves Cabral was born.
Turmoil has been the setting for his life and by living half of it in the Azores and the other in Boston, Samuel gained various influences and has shared his music in both lands since a very young age.
In 2004 Sam initiated his latest project - Mademoiselle.
While still searching for the "band", he decided to teach himself the art of "Home Recording". Sam started writing again, sweating again, falling in love with music again.
Mademoiselle represents the change from a young body and soul into a more mature being, along with all the beauty and the strange in between.
His songs are sometimes dark and hypnotic, other times hopeful, but all are cathartic and pure in essence.

Samuel Cabral - Mademoiselle Bio

In the early hours of August 10, 1976, the New England news channels were warning people to stay inside their houses, in order to avoid category 3 - Hurricane Belle. But Margarida and Joaquim Cabral couldn't stay home and began rushing towards the Hospital. This is how Samuel Neves Cabral was born.

Living in the New England area until the age of 9, Sam was always surrounded by musicians in his family. Times were not the easiest back then, but both paretnts managed to raise Sam along with his two younger brothers. Shortly after his 9th birthday, the Cabral family moved back to a Portuguese mid-atlantic group of islands called the Azores.

Listening to dark and strange bands such as Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd at a very early age, played a great role on establishing a direction for Sam's music and creativity.
Later on, in his teenage years, he immersed himself into bands like Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam.
It was also around this time that he started feeling the need to create music and sing. So along with some friends he created his first band - Achen' Hole Sinners. A band that toured the islands of the Azores and also had one of their songs (Funny Bleed) in the number 1 spot on the RDP Azores radio chart for 3 consecutive weeks. In 1994 Sam and his band received the Best New Band and Best New Singer awards.
He also participated and experimented in various projects, whether being musical or any other type of performance arts, with a variety of local musicians and artists. Sam knew that, without a doubt, through art, he felt alive.
Bands like the Cocteau Twins and This Mortal Coil influenced him to try different things. Sam also fell in love with artist such as Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumkins and Jeff Buckley.
Later on, Sam moved to the U.S.... the "Great Land".
Shortly after his first year in the U.S., Sam, together with his brother and cousin created the band ghost24 which lasted about 4 years. A band that played numerous shows in the Boston area as well as playing in Maine and Rhode Island. Their debut came in 2000 with the simply titled mini EP, Ghost 24 and was followed up the next year with their 6 song EP, Hover - A mix of both mellow and spirited rock music. Hover had received air-play on radio stations such as 104.1 (WBCN - Boston Emissions) and 107.3 (WAAF - Bay State Rock).
Some of the reviews described Hover such as:

"Very dark, haunting cerebral and rockin', while still encapsulating (...), some very nicely written melody in to the mix."
Deek McDeekula III - The Boston Soundcheck Magazine

"They clearly put a great deal into their songwriting - these aren't just rags pulled off the currently passing bandwagon"
Tim Emswiler - The Noise

With the Ghost 24 chapter closed, Sam decided to take some time to prepare his next project - Mademoiselle.
Not wanting to spend months trying to re-establish a new band, he decided to teach himself how to record at home. After a "trial and error" period, he was getting closer to doing this.
Having always a numerous collection of ideas and such for songs, Sam started writing again, sweating again, falling in love with music again.
To Sam, Mademoiselle represented the change from a young body and soul into a more mature one, along with all the beauty and the strange in between.
His songs are sometimes dark and hypnotic, other times hopefull, but all are cathartic and pure in essence.
It's the way the music draws you in, the way it embraces you that makes Sam's music unique. Described as being "ambient", "encapsulating" and somewhat distorted, the music speaks for itself.
Other than playing all the instruments, Sam wrote, recorded and mixed this EP.
Thank you for taking the time to read these lines and listen to these songs.
