In it's most potent form, music goes beyond barriers, bridging gaps between people who on the surface may seem to be foreign to each other. Such is the case with Lauricia, a Maryland based singer & songwriter who has a musical and cultural bond with her fans. On her first album, Spanish Tendencies, one can witness the Spanish flair throughout that brings the culture of Spain to the rest of the world. A lavish, emotionally saturated ride with universal themes of romance, conflict, desire, discovery, and hope abound in the album as you're simultaneously taken on a musical journey of Spain.

Lauricia's Story

Combining the flair of world culture with sensually emotive vocals, Lauricia has been causing quite a stir around the world as the seller of a highly charming musical blend one might call 'a musical excursion to exotic places', and it's singer 'the Queen of vocal surprises'.

How did it all start? Born near Philadelphia, Lauricia was raised by musical parents with multicultural backgrounds. She was not only surrounded by all kinds of music, but also languages & cultures as a child. Lauricia seemed to have inherited her family's musical gifts and she started getting involved in everything from school choirs to violin lessons since a very early age. When Lauricia was only 5 years old, her mother, a guitar teacher, tragically passed away leaving Lauricia's father to be a single parent. Having no brothers or sisters and witnessing the demise of her father's health in her teens, Lauricia had nowhere to turn...except music. 'Music was my escape from reality when it became unbearable. Without it, I hate to think of how I would have ended up.'

Lauricia wanted to start performing in shows as soon as she was ready, and begun doing so when she was only 12. 'If I couldn't get a stage show booking, I would invite all of the neighbors over and create my own show for them. I did it all, from doing my own hair & makeup to playing various instruments, singing & dancing.' Lauricia set off to New York in her early teens for a possible record deal only to discover that she had to make too big a sacrifice. 'It was a gigantic risk I was not able nor willing to take. I knew where my heart was and with as much as I love music, my father was my priority and I simply could not leave him.' Instead, Lauricia decided to take her music into her own hands and start producing her original songs at home. 'I had nothing at the time, just a simple keyboard and a karaoke machine, but it was enough to get some of the best songs I wrote in recorded format. This not only helped to polish my songwriting skills, but also fine-tuned my ear and gave me new ideas for songs I would later use in my album, Spanish Tendencies.

In her late teens, Lauricia went to beauty school to polish her image and stage presence. She started becoming locally known as a Leann Rimes impersonator after winning a local talent competition for singing the song, 'Blue', a country song known for Leann's yodeling and mature-sounding vocals. Lauricia was the only one able to pull off Leann's vocal techniques to perfection and the audience of thousands booed the judges on local television when Lauricia did not win first place. Not only did people start noticing Lauricia's voice, but also her charisma and beauty.

Soon after winning many local talent shows and performing in dozens of stage shows, Lauricia decided to head off to college where she graduated in record time while also receiving scholarships and awards for her stellar academics. She was also a student who stood out, as she voluntarily started her own international student organization and received recognition from the college after a buzz was created about her lavish cultural events. At her events, she and the students would perform in mini talent shows where they would sing, dance and play instruments, all with a cultural flair! 'I think this is when I noticed my extreme interest in different cultures and languages. After graduating, I moved to Europe and stayed there for 4 years. This allowed me to learn new languages and explore cultures I would have otherwise only heard about.' The combination of her travels, language skills & interest in cultures gives her music a world fusion flair that is unique in and of itself.
