Biography: Kevin McCarthy

Some musicians experience an essential moment—an epiphany, if you will—when the veneer of impediments and “reasons why” holding them back from a headlong plunge into their passion peels away to reveal the heartwood of a true artist.

For Kevin McCarthy; a songwriter, singer and principal of his label, Corkmusic; that moment occurred when he realized that music was a vehicle with which he could communicate ideas and feelings for which words had failed.

The critics picked up on that ability right from the start: when his debut album, “Anchors Away” was released, a review in “Discovering Artists” revealed “His voice is smooth and the tunes are dreamy and undefinable as far as genres go, which adds to the album’s appeal.”

His new album, “Hiding In Plain Sight,” promises to generate the same excitement from critics, old and new fans alike. The new work was produced by McCarthy, Jerry Becker (The Bittersweets), and bassist Jeremy Bleich with perfor

ANNOUNCES SECOND ALBUM, “HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT”

March 2nd: official CD release party slated for Cleveland’s Agora Theater

SAN FRANCISCO – 120,000 miles, fourteen states, three years and one amazing 10-hour recording session have rolled past since Kevin McCarthy’s debut album, “Anchors Away” (Corkmusic) dazzled listeners and critics alike

Today, McCarthy is ready to continue his ascension to a national stage with the release of “Hiding in Plain Sight” (Corkmusic) and an official CD release party at the Agora Theater in Cleveland on March 2nd.

He will be joined by Santa Fe’s Jeremy Bleich, San Francisco’s Scott Barkan, the Motor City’s Chris Bober, and Toledo’s Nathan Douds for what he refers to as “a night to remember.”

The album was produced by McCarthy, Jerry Becker (The Bittersweets), and Beautiful Loser, which he describes as an “eclectic cast of musicians with creative and technical abilities second to none.” The album came together during a 10-hour recording session in September that had minimal editing and overdubs.

The songwriter’s latest effort follows on the heels of his debut, which established him solidly as a rising talent. An Evolving Artists review summed it up: “Basically, this effort by Kevin McCarthy is palatable to anyone who devours meaningful, un-spoiled folk-rock music…in essence, it's remarkable.”

McCarthy’s view of his music and its effect on his live audiences is as clean and uncomplicated as his tracks. “When they’re leaving my show, I want them to feel like they just shared a kaleidoscope of intense feelings,” McCarthy says, “Challenged, ecstatic, lost, found, electrified.”

While he is feeling the challenge of making a mark in the independent music sector by having to handle virtually all aspects of promoting his music, his work ethic—by any measure: miles, performances or energy—will maintain his impressive career trajectory. His music will take care of the rest.
