Curriculum Vitae of Humberto Gom

Humberto Gómez Vera was born July 2,1954 in Havana Cuba. At a very early age he began to study music in a private academy, continuing later in the Escuela Nacional De Instructores De Arte where he graduated in 1975. In 1976 he began his professional musical career as a guitar teacher at the Escuela Nacional De Instructores De Arte, and as guitarist of the group Rapsoda. With this group he worked in different clubs; La Cueva Del Pirate, Cabaret Internacional, Albacora, and others.

In 1979 he began to work as an arranger and composer for Orquestra De La Radio Y Television Cubana, writing music for soap operas such as El Viejo Espigon, Oro Verde, 4 Mujeres, Todo por Amor, etc. Later he became musical director of the group Caracol, working as the accompanying orchestra in the night clubs Parisien, Capri Night Club, Caribbean Night Club, Balcon del Caribe, Casa Granda, and many other night clubs around Cuba. In1988 he travelled to Munich, Germany with Arturo Sandoval and Tata Güines, to collaborate as arranger and composer for a CD titled Homage a La Afrocubania. During this time he also worked as a Professor of Cuban Music in the Munich Rhythmic Conservatorium.

In 1989 back in Cuba, he began as the musical director of Clave 5 and again as an arranger and composer for the Orquestra De La Radio y Television Cubana. He continued in this year writing with Jose Luis Cortez (El Tosco) the music of the musical comedy Kid Chocolate Champion. In 1994 he travelled to Denmark as composer, arranger, and musical director of the musical comedy Elegua and the Three Queens.





Currently he works in Denmark as a professor at the Rythmic Conservatory of Copenhagen, the Rhythmic Conservatory of Ã?rhus, the Rhythmic Conservatory of Odense, and is the musical director of the group â??HUMBERTO Y SU AMIGOSâ?? , Grupo Tropical , bass player and composer of the big band The Mambo Night Orchestra and Group Cocoson. He is a member of KODA, NCB (Nordisk Copyright Bureau) for Verdens Musik Forening (Union of World Music), DPA (Dansk Popular Songwriters) and Gramex.
