Doc Garret releases CD

Doc Garret, a longtime Gainesville rock musician, will perform a CD-release show tonight at Eddie C's.
"Closer to the Sun" features nine songs, all written by Alford, and is the culmination of several decades of music, love and the pursuit of inner happiness. It also, incidentally, happens to rock. With Brad Burns' blistering guitar work and solid performances by many notable local musicians, the album is a pleasant trip back to the '70s sound, when the guitar was king. The fourth cut, "Kyle's Song" - written for his son is especially moving.
"I've been playing original music from the beginning, before it was cool," says Alford, who has been playing around these parts since the 1970s. "My primary interest was always making original music and having fun."
The current band includes Garret Alford on lead vocals and guitar, Brad Burns on lead guitar and vocals, Kevin Kennedy on bass and vocals, Pete Ma

Bio

My first real band was called "Grindstone". We used to play the teen clubs and bars in the Norfolk, Virginia area where my dad was stationed at the time. When I was 16 we moved to Okinawa. I hooked up with a great group of guys and we formed the "BadAss Blues Band". My first Gainesville band was called "Treat", a five piece dueling guitar band. Next "Holy Trinity", a 3-piece power trio. We played the local bars, in Jacksonville, the same circuit as Molly Hatchet and .38 Special. Back in Gainesville I played in "Condor", then "Steel Bamboo", "Satori", "Department of Art and Music Control", "King Doc", "Rocktafari" and now the "Doc Garret Band" as well as solo and guest artist spots.
