About Me

Vocalist Derrick Paul Miller

Derrick Paul Miller was born and raised in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. From an early age, he showed signs of a very bright future in the entertainment industry. With many years of dance training in tap, step, and jazz from a young age, Mr. Miller developed a fine sense of rhythm and musicality. Always a crowd pleaser at local festivals and competitions, he also began to develop a strong and commanding stage presence. Derrick was asked to join the renowned New Brunswick performing troupe Character's Incorporated in high school which is where he began to really discover his fine Tenor voice. By the time he finished public school, Derrick had already travelled the world representing Canada in such countries as Czechoslovakia, England, Scotland, and the United States, as well as a national Canadian tour.
Mr. Miller then went on to Acadia University where he studied Music and English. At this point he started to become interested in classical music and opera. Derrick was a Kiwanis festival award winner at the local and provincial levels and went on the study voice at the Maritime Conservatory of Music with Mary McMurray. After two years of conservatory study in Halifax, concert performances, a starring role in Il Taborro with Dalhousie Opera Theatre, and numerous appearances with the Halifax Feast Dinner Theatre, Derrick went on to Graduate school at the Hartt School of Music in Connecticut where he coached and studied with Jerome Pruett, Jack Zai, and Miriam Charney. Roles included Gastone in La Traviata and Acis in Acis and Galatea.
Mr. Miller was then cast in the National Tour of the musical Funny Girl, and a season at the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse in Auburn, NY in such shows as Camelot and Cabaret. He then returned to Canada where he has been cast in leading roles in The Sound of Music and Les Miserables. Mr. Miller is also a member of the prestigious Canadian Opera Company Chorus of professional singers, with whom he has performed in over 15 productions. Derrick has been the featured soloist at the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo along side fellow Frederictonian Soprano Measha Brueggergosman, and has been in concert with the Saint Cecilia Concert Series and Opera Nova Scotia, as well as with the Ceremonial Guard on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, among many others. Mr. Miller always attracts capacity crowds to his concerts which include a varied program of opera, operetta, musical theatre, Irish ballads, war songs, and standards.
Most recently, Derrick has released his debut CD, Page One, to great critical acclaim. This recording is classical cross-over in genre and features popular cover tunes, original works by Canadian songwriters and Irish Ballads. His CD has been played on numerous CBC programs as well as many radio stations both nationally and internationally.
Mr. Miller makes his home in Toronto, Ontario, Canada where he has finished his seventh season with the Canadian Opera Company. This past Spring, he recorded his second CD, It Is Well..., a collection of beloved sacred and inspirational music and plans on touring and promoting this album in the up-coming year.
