I love to write songs more than anything in the world. I love to write songs for myself and other artists. Basically, I just want my songs to be heard. I believe that melody, emotion, and great hooks should always be a top priority when composing a song. I recorded a solo full-length album (Songs Without Answers), writing all of the songs, and playing most of the instruments myself. My sound has been compared to bands like Train, David Gray, and Five for Fighting. The song, “Red Light Apart” won a first place award for VH1's “Song of the Year” competition. Derek is currently playing acoustic shows, writing songs, and just recently finished a new EP with producer Tony Smith.
