Aleksa

A singer/dancer Aleksa grew up in the company of musicians, singers, and other performing artists. His father was, and still is, one of the prominent guitar players in ex-Yugoslavia. His mother shared with him her love for dancing, having been a dancer in her youth. She was a wild, free-spirited hippie who couldn't sit in one place for long, and his dad was constantly touring, so Aleksa’s grandparents looked after him most of the time. Today the happiest memories he has are of those times.

When he was with his mom, life seemed like a constant party. He never lacked love and attention in the company of her inseparable friends, Sladjana Milosevic and Baby Doll. They were two avant-garde queens of Yugoslavian pop rock scene of the eighties, and they played a big role in his upbringing. Their unconventional ways have influenced Aleksa’s creative expression in a big way. As he grew up, they grew older and more eccentric in their ways, but remained young at heart so the transition from "mom's friends" to "his friends" was inevitable and unnoticeable.
Having a father who was away with his band most of the time was tough, but it occasionally provided Aleksa with the privilege of joining him on tour for a few months at the time. He loved watching his father being admired by the crowd, and he dreamed about being in that same spotlight - someday.

He began playing violin and viola at the age of 8, and had won the competition for best violin player at 13. But it was at about that time when he discovered a huge passion for dancing that gave his life another direction.

At 14, Aleksa starts attending ballet school "Lujo Davico" in Belgrade. At 16, while still at school, he joins the ensemble of Musical Theatre of Terazije, where, after only two years, he becomes a soloist. He remains there for seven years.

In 1994, he starts to work in elite club "Cabaret Rose", where he entertains a public made mostly of prominent Belgrade artists. In the meantime, he establishes a ballet group "Boys and Girls", and in 1998 they go on tour to North Africa for three months, where they participate in summer festival of Monastir, Cartagina and Tunis. The group was performing actively until 1999, when Aleksa leaves for Barcelona and starts working for IT Dance Company, a ballet group that put accent on different ballet forms and movement techniques. There he acquired invaluable experience and improved greatly his body expression.

In 2005, Aleksa's scope of interest widened once more, this time to include singing and song writing. It was a good year, when he had so much music in his head that he had to put it down somewhere, and that's how this album came about.
