I am an independent solo musician on the oh so fun journey to becoming successful in my music endeavors. I'm just in my character development stage right now.
Working on a few new songs, experimenting with new tunings. I am a perfectionist, so that limits me from uploading music a lot. But I'm cutting down on that, just wanna start getting exposure. Send any critics, love to hear what ya'll think.

M@ Biography

Matt Sweatt’s Bio

( or just M@ )

I was born in Alexandria, LA, and am the youngest of three boys. Up until recently I lived in a small town in the state of Virginia, good old Martinsville. This is where my fascination and passion for music was born.

I was twelve when I first picked up a guitar and haven’t put it down since. In those days I had a real tendency to get bored with activities pretty quickly, so my mom would not invest in a guitar for me until I showed her that I was really serious. As a test of my commitment, she bought me a beginner guitar book and handed it to me with her old acoustic guitar and said “when you get through this book, and have taught yourself some basic chords, then we’ll talk about getting you your own guitar.” I got started and just couldn’t stop. I spent several hours a day on it and actually went through the whole book in a week! At the same time I also started working on a plan to make enough money for my very own electric guitar, but when my Mom saw how much I loved it and how much I was willing to work for it, she surprised me with an Ibanez electric guitar starter kit.

I don’t think a day went by that I did not practice. I would listen to some of the classic guitar solos and work and work on them until I could play perfectly right along with the CD. I was also experimenting with writing my own music and found I really liked that a lot. Then, at the age of sixteen, all of my hard work brought me to one of my biggest achievements so far.

Just a few miles down into North Carolina, a radio station was holding a contest. It was the 98.7 the zone Super Star Search. Well it sounded very inviting so I sent in a demo and was one of only 16 people accepted to compete out of 300 entries. I had gone through some preliminary performances and made it to the finals competing against four girls. These four girls were from the Greensboro, NC area, had a good fan base and were several years older than me. I remember listening to the announcement on the radio and almost passing out when they announced that the winner was Matt Sweatt! The prizes included a $500 gift certificate to the local mall, $2000 to record a demo, and the opportunity to open up for Hootie and the Blowfish, Uncle Kracker, Sister Hazel, and Sixpense None the Richer. This was the greatest moment I have experienced in my life.

I graduated high school in June of 2004 and was asked to perform a song that I wrote especially for my graduating class. It was also recorded on the CD that everyone got with their yearbook.

In the Spring of 2005 my Mom moved to Florida for a great job opportunity and I decided to move with her because I felt like I would have a better chance to do something with my music in a larger town. I have played a few times in a local coffee shop where I try out my new songs. When I’m not working, I spend a lot of time continuing to work on my music.

Thank you for taking the time to listen to my demo. I know that I will only improve if I am willing to be open to suggestions and advice from mentors like yourself, so I truly appreciate any feedback that you have concerning my music.
