LIz Cox Bio

Liz Cox is a unique and outstanding talent with a voice that is ?lovely and assured, expressive and strong?. Her songs are ?deeply emotional with compelling lyrics?.

She sings with sincerity, conviction and a compassion that ?draws you in, makes you want to listen?. She reaches in and touches the hearts of her audiences: ?Brings tears to my eyes?, ?provokes such a feeling?, ?Incredible!?.

Fans, reviewers and A&R people have compared Liz to Sheryl Crow, Sarah McLachlan, Nicole Nordeman, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Fiona Apple, Annie Lennox and Evanescence. And yet, she has her own distinctly unique style that is difficult to fit into one neat little box.

As a child in Macon, Georgia, Liz was surrounded by music from her family and from the city. Her mom's singing was an early inspiration: ?It?s one of my hallmark memories ? there was always that beautiful voice.? Liz learned to play piano, by ear, listening to Beethoven and Debussy. As a pre-teen she would amaze family and friends by playing movie scores and themes after watching a movie once. Her earliest ?compositions? were her own movie themes, strongly influenced by Vangelis.

But growing up just blocks away from famed Capricorn Recording Studios,
she also developed a love for Blues, R&B and Rock and was influenced by Otis Redding, The Allman Brothers, and Ray Charles.

At 17, Liz and her ?No. 1 Jazz Band? competed in a regional talent show. They were the clear-cut audience favorite, and went on to win the grand prize, earning scholarship money for college.

Liz then attended Oxford College of Emory University majoring in psychology and later graduated with a 3.84 GPA from Mercer University. She was named to both the President?s and the Dean?s list.

But despite hard work and achievements, Liz faced times of struggle, hardship and heartache. Broken dreams and broken relationships left her feeling empty and spiritually bankrupt. Liz reached a rock bottom moment of despair: ?I just gave up, said I?m done, and called out to God to just ?take over? my life?.

Surrendering to God?s will, Liz began to heal spiritually and emotionally. Then an amazing new wave of music blossomed from her.

Her music has indeed blossomed and is winning accolades from fans around the world as well as music industry insiders. Independent A&R company TAXI.com has forwarded many of her songs to major labels such as Sony and Curb as well as to many publishers. In fact, she is among the top percentage of "forwarded" artists at TAXI. Her songs have won the #1 spot on many of Broadjam.com's Top 10 list, not once but repeatedly.

Recently, Liz has been gaining fans and friends in Nashville and has already made a impression with several 'Music Row' people. As a member of the Nashville Songwriters Association, she has met a number of Nashville writers , several of which have expressed interest in writing with her. So currently, Liz has a number of collaborative projects underway.

Even though Liz is still working hard for her first "big break", she (and many others) believe she has a very bright future in the music industry. But for Liz, the music, the songs, and the message come first. She feels her "job" is to simply ?get out of the way and let God?s heart come through.?. Perhaps this is why her listeners are so moved.
