Lew enjoys composing and listening to music in a variety of styles. Although his current focus is on instrumentals, he also writes songs with lyrics.

Lew Lazarus

After going through the usual childhood music lessons and teenage bands, Lew attended the University of California at Berkeley, where he took a degree in English literature, while also taking a number of courses in music.

Following Berkeley, Lew attended California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), where he received a degree in music composition. In addition to other, more conventional music studies at CalArts, Lew attended numerous seminars and classes led by electronic music pioneer, Morton Subotnick , and used the school's analog synthesizer studio to create many compositons. At CalArts, Lew was also privileged to have private lessons with a number of remarkable teachers, including among others:
- Avant Garde icon Earle Brown.
- Academy Award Winning film and TV composer Leonard Rosenman.
- Music educator, Schoenberg Institute chief and contemporary music champion, Leonard Stein.

In addition to his interest in classically influenced music, Lew also has a strong interest in popular styles of music such as country and rock, and a number of his songs have been recorded, or used in films.

More recently, Lew attended numerous classes and wrote many pieces for electronic instrumentation, as well as for live players, while earning a certificate in Film Scoring from the well known UCLA Extension Entertainment Studies program.
