History:
In 1997, the core members of The Committee formed the group and launched a project that has been developing and maturing both musically and professionally throughout its five-year history.
The Crew:
The core members of The Committee are the MCs, Juan Hooks (Don Juan) and Austin (Automatic) Mcvey, and producer, Jeff (Jethro) Ryon. The Committee features a four-piece live band consisting of guitar, bass, drums, keys and horns, and DMC style DJ.
Achievements:
Within the past five, The Committee has released two CDs (Harvest Time LP, 1997 and the Too Many Sheets EP, 2000). A forthcoming album, Throwing Chicken Bones At The Crack House will be released in June, 2001. The Committee owns its own studio (6B Mobile) and has recorded, mixed, engineered and Mastered all three hip-hop albums in-house.
Local Response:
The Committee is Currently located in Iowa City, Iowa. The group has forged a solid live act which has allowed them to perform with acts such as Naughty by Nature, Rakim, Kotton Mouth Kings, Digital Underground, Next, MTV's DJ Scribble, Pharcyde, Doodlebug of Digable Planets, Pilfers, Atmosphere, Phunk Junkies, Def Comedy Jam acts, Michael Frante's Spearhead, and Loud Record Showcase.
