Gipsys Knife

Song Description

The Gipsy King is a 44 year old jealous man and when he finds out that his 17 year old wife is having an affair with a young boy he stabbes her to death and buries her in the woods- face down. The wood becomes haunted and if you happen to be in the woods at night time you will hear her cry. But the sound can also be mistaken by the sound of a swinging knife- held by the gipsy king who also died that night. But who killed him ...?

Lyrics

GIPSYS KNIFE
(Gunther Zerener ©)

Late some nights
When the moon is cold
You better stay inside
And don't open if there's
Someone at your door
'Cause the woods 'round here
Are dangerous
In the middle of the night
It can steal a soul
Like it's often done before
The local people swear
It's the Gipsy who's returned
Roaming 'round the woods
For his wife
And in the morning
When the sun comes up
On a lonely path you'll find
Blood stains
From the Gipsys knife

Go down to the church
And at the graveyard
You will find
A tombstone with no flowers
And no name
The Gipsy-queen is buried there
And if what they say is true
She's laid face-down
To hide away the shame
The stories here are many
But at one point they all agree
One stormy night
The Gipsy took her life
And he left her on
A lonely path
In the middle of the woods
Stabbed to death
By the Gipsys knife

Oh, it's a mystery
They say
On that night
All the gipsies went away
But in the woods
If you hear a Gipys lonely cry
You better run
Or you're gonna die

It happened many years ago
When the gipsies
Roamed the land
And now and then they'd pass
Trough our town
The Gipsy-queen was seventeen
Her man was forty-four
They say he was
The meanest man around
The Gipsy-queen was lonely
In our town she found someone
And secretly they'd meet
Late at night
The Gipsy caught them in the woods
Since then late some nights
You can run but you cannot hide
From the Gipsys knife

Oh, it's a mystery
They say...

so when the nights are getting long
You better stay out
Of the woods
'Cause the Gipsy might be there
And call your name
Forever he is searching
'Though his Gipsy-queen is dead
But a young boys blood
He's come to claim
I was just a kid
But I'm the only one
Who saw
And I'm the one who took
The Gipsys life
Now he's buried with his
Gipsy-queen but his soul
Is in the woods
Calling out
The Gipsys knife

Oh, I know I never
Will be free
'Cause in the woods someday
I know he will find me
And too the woods I go
When she calls me late some nights
But is it her
Or the Gipsys knife

Oh, it's a mystery
They say
On that night
All the gipsies went away...
But in the woods
If you hear a Gipsys lonely cry
You better run
Or you're gonna die
