As a teenager, Franco Z frequented Birdland in Manhattan, catching Gerry Mulligan, Dizzy Gillespie and others. He now appears every Saturday at Martinis Above Fourth, in San Diego.

Based on the chord structure of George Shearing's "Lullaby of Birdland," the legendary cellar club on 52nd St. in NYC, this tune celebrates a new place for jazz and music on the West Coast.
