Lyrics

LEAVIN? TENNESSEE

(1932, Drought has hit the Tennessee Valley)

Everybody?s movin? from the valley
Times are hard there?s nothin? left to do
It breaks my heart to see them leave the valley
Soon I guess I?ll be goin? too

Because there?s nothin? growin?
And there?s nothin? goin? for me here
The land is dyin? I?m leavin? Tennessee

Nothin? left to see but dust and sorrow
All my neighbours ruined one by one
Drought has come and hunger sure must follow
Our golden days are numbered they are done

Because there?s nothin? growin?
And there?s nothin? goin? for me here
The land is dyin? I?m leavin? Tennessee

Mabye I?ll go west to California
Or north to where the factory smoke I?ll see
Lookin? like no future in the southland
And handouts have no place in life for me

Because there?s nothin? growin?
And there?s nothin? goin? for me here
The land is dyin? I?m leavin? Tennessee
