Mr. Sadness

Story Behind The Song

The story is about the same as the description... not written so much about one specific event, but about the feelings and paranoia that go along with depression.

Song Description

This is a song about how dramatic, theatrical, and fake life can be while in the midst of depression. I wrote it with that theatrical presence in mind. The original song was meant for guitar and vocals, but I used a keyboard to create more of a symphonic feel.

Lyrics

Mr. Sadness

Once in a while, when you're feelin down and blackness knows your name
Sneak to the shadows, leave behind, the caring and the pain
He's waiting in the sheltered walls of the place you call your home
Telling lies about you while you sit there all alone
All know the face of.... Mr. Sadness

He's dressed in frowns and framed by black and even darker grays
And makes you think you're only choice is to stand and run away
He's love and hate and fear of death, for aren't they all the same
Greeting you in the darkest dreams by calling out your name
All know the face of.... Mr. Sadness

Will you run and cry to mommy about all the shit you've seen
When you can just as easily hold it in and tell it all to me
You see, my boy, it's not so bad this easy thing I do
I'll tell you what they think of you and then you'll think it's true

So as you're waiting patiently for life to pass you by
Think of Mr. Sadness for a while and dare to ask him why
Cause it's all a big joke you see, you were never on your own
They were all right beside you when you thought were alone
Forget the face of... Mr. Sadness
