Penitence

Story Behind The Song

Realising that when you make mistakes or when certain actions happen in the past, you will find that no matter what you do, you can't change what happened and even though you may have changed, it still happened. You have to learn to accept the consequences of your actions even if you have regret and have changed for the better, otherwise, you may just get stuck in that same web all over again. The song ends with a cry out to above and a true feeling of penitence.

Song Description

I wanted something that expressed both dark and light sides of the topic in the song and created 'Penitence' with this in mind. It combines electro/hip hop/rock elements with sweet sounding verses reminiscent of early Pink Floyd, and an outwardly sounding passionate encouraging rap chorus.

Lyrics

Trying to find that place
that doesn't know you well
it's like trying to hide your face
in places where you dwell
penitence

Why didn't we see
why didn't we

Take the right direction

We didn't take the right
we didn't make the right
we didn't know the right direction
when life brought us to our knees
it was all for our correction
We didn't take the right
we didn't make the right
we didn't know the right instructions
you've gotta see the light
and follow the way
for the sake of your induction

How come we didn't take
how come we didn't take

Take the right instructions

We didn't take the right
we didn't make the right
we didn't know the right direction
when life brought us to our knees
it was all for our correction
We didn't take the right
we didn't make the right
we didn't know the right instructions
you've gotta see the light
and follow the way
for the sake of your induction

The maps are all the same
the treasures all turn blue
coz I'm here for some pleasure too
but not to be
abused

Why didn't we see
why didn't we

Take the right direction

We didn't take the right
we didn't make the right
we didn't know the right direction
when life brought us to our knees
it was all for our correction
We didn't take the right
we didn't make the right
we didn't know the right instructions
you've gotta see the light
and follow the way
for the sake of your induction

How come we didn't take
how come we didn't take

Take the right instructions

We didn't take the right
we didn't make the right
we didn't know the right direction
when life brought us to our knees
it was all for our correction
We didn't take the right
we didn't make the right
we didn't know the right instructions
you've gotta see the light
and follow the way
for the sake of your induction
