Story Behind The Song
When I was travelling in Italy, I saw a spray painted stencil of a little girl with the caption beneath "Emily the Strange RULES!!" I imagined what the girl must be like and I thought I'd write a song about a strong willed, independent person who refused to comprimise herself for the sake of fitting in.

Lyrics
Emily the Strange
You got more brains than a library book
though you ain't been to school in a while
you ain't got no car, but it suits you just fine
cause your legs can still take you for miles
and as for your friend, he's been at it again
with his stories and games in the post
the pictures round here do no justice my dear
you seem tired and you feel like a ghost.
Please don't change your mind
I know it's a pain being Emily the Strange
Be lovely be wild, you'll never be tamed being Emily the Strange.
The debutants whisper your name time to time
and they say you were crazy to leave
while secretly adding, "the Strange" to their name
cause they know in their hearts you are free
Please don't change your mind
I know it's a pain being Emily the Strange
Be lovely be wild, you'll never be tamed being Emily the Strange.
