Lyrics
Running Through The New Brown Corn T. Edwin Doss
Jimmy Morgan was a young boy.......lived a half mile from Papa's farm on a old dirt road near the quarry where he once fell...broke his arm......He was a tough one...took a lot of things on the chin..... we hunted quail and deer...had fist fights...we were the best of friends
When we were running.....we were running..... couple of crazy kids in Alabama thinking things would always stay.. We were running.....we were running ... never knowing the world could turn upside down,.. lose things along the way...Wish I could go back to that time...and place where I was born... when we were running....................running through the new brown corn
Years later he turned eighteen..Got a letter from "Uncle Sam"...Families drove to the station to wave good-bye...he was bound for Vietnam.... I ran 'long side that train .....stopped to pray on an ol' side track.... School band played "Dixie" in the drizzlin' rain...... I felt he wasn't coming back
Chorus
I often think about my friend...what he said to me that day... Shook my hand...never shed a tear, as the train was pulling away Told me to follow my dreams..hold on to good things that I find Know God...Love family...if I ever get lost....Go back home in my mind
Chorus
