A Little Bit of Heaven

Story Behind The Song

I had the opportunity to babysit for my second granddaughter when she was about 7 months old. I put her in a playpen while I strummed some chords on my guitar. When I looked up she was staring wide eyed at me and the guitar and it struck me that this was something completely new to her. I built on those chords and wrote the song.

Lyrics

I smile to see the look of wide-eyed wonder on your face
Captivated by this new world that you've found
And suddenly the things that seemed so commonplace
Are like a miracle to me now

Never did believe in angels
Until you came to town
You bring a little bit of heaven
Whenever you're around

You can chase away my sadness
You hardly have to make a sound
You bring a little bit of heaven
Whenever you're around

Here for just a moment then they're gone
The house is quiet now, life's adjusted to a slower pace
Then your kids are having babies of their own
And you find yourself staring at a strangely familiar face

I've heard it said that love was lovelier
The second time around
You bring alittle bit like heaven
Whenever you're around

You turn grown ups into children
You've got the power to astound
You turn this sad world into heaven
Whenever you're around

If spreading joy was like baseball
Baby you would win the triple crown
You bring a little bit of heaven
Whenever you're around

Me and Grandma both know something your folks will come to understand
Heaven only comes in little doses
That's all that we're allowed
The tired days and sleepless nights they think will never end
One day they'll look back and smile and think how short it all seems now

So close your eyes my little darling
May your sleep be warm and sound
You bring a little bit like heaven

Whenever you're around 3x

Nice lyrics, though there was a calypso type beat I think it would do better in a pop genre
