Song Description

Two generations of American serviceman in two seperate conflicts and the connection they share in the War Memorial in Washington D.C.

Story Behind the Song

War and The Black Wall with the soldiers names engraved on it, who were killed in action overseas Older brother's friend Joey died in Vietnam. But also, Desert Storm and surviving.

Lyrics

THE BLACK WALL

History is full fo hearts and souls,
and memories are mist hills and holes.
The mystery behind the rock that rolls,
It's hearts and souls again.

My friend Mary lives in freedom
And her young Joey is tough.
I know she really loves her baby
She just can't love him enough.
They took a trip to seeThe Black Wall
Not really sure what they'd find.
Found Daddy's name there on The Black Wall
It simply serves to remind.

Chorus

That it was overseas and years ago
And distance doesn't change anything
Won't you tell me please
'cause I'd love to know
Do you listen when we sing?

My friend Joey died for freedom
Bleeding in the jungles of Nam. umm
I know he really loved his country
But my friend Joey is gone.
Scratched his name in The Black Wall
But that don't keep him here in my mind.
They took a message to his woman
and told her that he stepped on a mine.

Chours

That it was overseas and years ago
And distance doesn't change anything
Won't you tell me please
'cause I'd love to know
Do you listen when we sing?

Catching moments as the days unwind
And opportunities for being kind
A chance to see the ones we left behind
To remind again

I need the first love twice - all over again
Just like the sun on ice - it's burning and then
When it gets warm and nice - it's water again

Now young Joey's seen the desert
Covering the ground in a tank
First sign of fire he shouted Jesus!
And he would say that's who he would thank

He came home to a hero's welcome
And made another trip to D.C.
Touched Daddy's name there on The Black Wall
And turned around and walked away free....free....free

Instrumental to fade and end
