Song Description

Broadjam Member Reviews life and living and loving, and the eternal question it's always worth singing and writing about. - Jeff Ashbaker Great guitar tone. Although there is just one guitar, the guitar builds and declines and then builds again. I love the chord changes; it's lovely progression. Strong vocal which reminds me very much of Tom Petty. Beautifully mastered....Lovely bright sound. Nice outro. - David James Really great acoustic guitar tone! Nice, simple recording with basic instrumentation - just acoustic and vocal. The verse set up the chorus well and you didn't take too long getting to the chorus which is very good. This tune could work in a heartfelt movie scene and also just sitting around a campfire. Good job. - Common Ground

Lyrics

WILL YOU STILL LOVE ME ?
(STEVE DAFOE 2005)
(COPYRIGHTED)

CHORUS: (PIANO NOTES BELOW)

E C A D B
WILL YOU STILL LOVE ME?

E C A B D
EVEN WHEN WE'RE OLDER?

E C A D B
WILL YOUR EYES BURN BRIGHT?

E C A B D
AS THEY DID AT THE ALTER?

E C A D B
WILL YOU STILL BE MY SWEETIE?

E C A B D
WHEN THERE's NO RICH, JUST POORER?

E C A D B
AS LIFE COOLS LOVE'S SMOULDER?

E C A B D
WILL YOU STILL LOVE ME?

VERSE 1:

A D C B
DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN.......
A C E D B
LIFE WAS JUST YOUTHFUL...?
A D C B
HARDLY, A WORRY THEN.........
A C E D B
YOUNG LOVE , OUR HEARTS SO FULL...
A D C B
WE ENJOYED IT TO THE END...
A G
BUT IN LIFE'S STAGES....

VERSE 2:

TWO SPIRITS BECAME ONE....
NOTHING GREATER THAN THAT...
THEN A DAUGHTER AND A SON
TO CHALLENGE DAD AND MOM
PRESSURES ON US TO KEEP THE FUN
BECAUSE OF LIFE'S STAGES....

VERSE 3:

WE GIVE THEM THEIR ROOTS...
WATCH ALL THEIR FAILURES
KNOWING THERE ARE NO FAST CURES
HELP THEM GET THEIR WINGS...
IN BOTH JOY AND STRESS IT BRINGS...
LIFE PULLS ALL THE STRINGS...

VERSE 4:

THERE'LL BE A DAY WHEN THE KIDS HAVE LEFT
AND WE ARE AGAIN ALONE TO FIND OUR WAY...
BACK TO THE TIME WE FIRST HAD MET.....
TO GET HERE, WE'D NEVER HAVE BET...
WE'D MAKE IT TO THIS LIFE STAGE...
ARE WE READY FOR THE NEXT AS WE SLOWLY AGE?

Great song, well composed and arranged. Love the sound on the acoustic guitar very full and bright.

Sounds like a demo tape for a John Mellencamp song, I mean that in a good way. Very relatable, very easy to listen to -comfortable melody and chord changes. Every couple has these thoughts and it is relatable. Love the imagery regarding the smolder at the altar

I love this song about the stages of life! It's well-crafted from start to finish, rich with word pictures, a very poignant picture of the history of the couple from young love to raising kids, to empty nest. Beautifully done! Guitar accompaniment is perfect...the song doesn't really need any more. Lyrics are creatively written and original. I heard nothing trite or overused in this song. Melody is memorable and the chorus is sing-able. Like the soft rhyme altar/older. The vocal performance exudes honesty. This is an artist I would go to hear at a folk festival again and again!

What a great love story...vocal clear, guitar was perfect for song.

The true test of songwriting is if the words and music get across with just one voice and one instrument. Does the tune have a memorable hook, do the words say something and match the mood of the melody. You've done this on all counts. Terrific inflections in your vocals and your instrumentation is great. I wish I could do as well.

Loved the lyrics, This was definitely written by someone who has a tremendous amount of life experience. It was honest and that is what makes a good song great. Thank you for the listen.

This is a very heartfelt song. Nice guitar playing and singing. Done in the tradition of folk. A guitar and and a man. This takes a lot of talent. Your dynamics were right on. Nice work, keep it up!!!

clear and clean recording as well as great vocal job sir! like the simple clean acoustic guitar going on. lyrics solid. identifiable and solid hook/title--will YOU still love me?? all the best.
