Gleanings from a Shaker Journal

Story Behind The Song

While exploring the shelves of an old house on Cape Cod, I found a book containing diaries of some of the early Shakers. Some of them jotted down songs and hymns in a form of hand notation which I found hard to figure out. This is a setting of one of them. I?m not sure I got all of the notes and rhythms right, (The Urim and Thummim weren?t made to my prescription) but it makes for a nice tune anyway.

Song Description

Tune based on handwritten notation found in early Shaker diaries.
