Story Behind the Song

You moved here with your man. The city was your oyster. But now he's gone, and his city still haunts you and comforts you.

Cool arrangement, I like how the song builds to the hook. Nice R&B groove, the band is smokin!!! Great hooks, very nice song idea. Breakdown at 1:55 into the two bar instrumental interlude into the pre-chorus is dope! Who came up with that? I love the energy and fun vibe I'm hearing. Very eclectic song. There is massive talent within this production. Great accompaniment! Love them horns and strings, organ, bells it's all here

Cool tune. Singer and band kicks butt! Love it! Modern production, but reminiscent of Motown R & B.

Lyrics

THE CITY AND ME
(Simon Finn)

He got me drunk on his wine
Made love to me in Fahrenheit
Blew his smoke in my eyes
Just to see if I would cry
And I did all night

I don't remember what he said
Words unraveled like a loosened thread
He was looking for a fight
And I spend our final night
In his city, not his bed

Now we're alone
Just the city and me
Keeping me company
Every sign
Every shadow
Bittersweet memories
He's the word on the street
He's the pulse and the beat
How alone can I be?
Just the city and me

I know everyone and nobody
He had this city in his sights
I was just a satellite
Didn't think the he could leave

But now he's gone
It's just the city and me
Keeping me company
Every sign
Every shadow
Bittersweet memories
He's the word on the street
He's the pulse and the beat
How alone can I be?
It's just the city and me
Chasing neon invitations
In pursuit of a high
I could never be lonely
Breathing in
Because the city
Is one hell of a guy
One hell of a guy

But now he's gone
It's just the city and me
Keeping me company
Every sign
Every shadow
Bittersweet memories
He's the word on the street
He's the pulse and the beat
How alone can I be?
It's just the city and me
Chasing neon invitations
In pursuit of a high
I could never be lonely
Breathing in
Because the city
Is one hell of a guy
One hell of a guy

He got me drunk on his wine
He blew his smoke in my eyes
Now as far as I can see
It's just the city and me
