Story Behind The Song

There's really no story behind this. I was sitting on my couch in the living room about a month ago farting around with the guitar and these chords came out, followed by a melody line, and then words. I thought the chords sounded depressing, so I wrote

This can relate to anyone who's been in a relationship they thought they could save, but deep down knew it had to end. Also, it's about dealing with the fact that you knoe you're better off, but you can't get over the fact that the relationship is done.

I'm here sitting alone by my unused telephone. I try to call you at home but I can't breathe. I threw the papers away that noone wants to read anyway. Tomorrow's just an hour away but I can't fall asleep.

I haven't played in a week. Since you've gone I fled to the street. I'm finally feeling relieved but I'm not free. I should have begged you to stay, but I knew you had to leave anyway. Now we're both alone with nothing to say but it's okay.

Can you remember a time when we were both just fine and truly high inside? I can remember a time when you would ease my mind it soothed me. I could fly. I could fall asleep at night.

I wonder if we'd taken a break, maybe time would heal our wounds and our fate. It felt like living but our souls were at stake. Hearts need grieving.
