Lyrics

Threads

The boy lays his money on the table

He is too weak to eat

His mama feels his hunger

But she's too overcome with the grief

The new baby lies awake needing to depend
not knowing

That all we can offer her is maybe the right to defend

The closet is all empty now from the many books left unread

Our minds are awash but still full of what others might have said

When there is no proof we only bow our heads to trip over walls

Left standing in the way by others who feared to heed their calls

We are always lost while we are on our way

Spending what the others have left behind with what they had to pay

When it's all used up where will we go?

We regress and only do what the others formally know

It's simple to have all our ducks in a row,

Only tie our ribbons in a bow,

Just to see the high when we have the low

And merely use the threads left behind

Others didn't sew

We have to stand up and do rather than say

Or we will not experience life in the proper way

Now who's going to start the march?

Are we waiting for the invisible patriarch?

Time to heal and not make wounds

Can the war stop or is it just too soon?

Listen while the others whisper their objections to our choices

Lest we forget they will only be forgotten noises

It's simple to have all our ducks in a row,

Only tie our ribbons in a bow,

Just to see the high when we have the low

And merely use the threads left behind

Others didn't sew

Let's do before we die

Something we all know we will face eye to eye

Teach and we will learn

Forgive and we shall pass

Treat each day as if it were our last

Study

And we will discover

Praise

And we will see

It's about a lot more that just you and me

It's simple to have all our ducks in a row,

Only tie our ribbons in a bow,

Just to see the high when we have the low

And merely use the threads left behind

Others didn't sew

...the boy lays his money on the table

He is too weak to eat

His mama feels his hunger but

She's too overcome with the grief
