Song Description

Written in my head over a day or so. Then worked out the chords on the guitar and then went for the recording. Always had it mind to ask Ray Brookes to put some blues harp on.

Story Behind the Song

Wanted to write a blues/southern rock style number with a similar mood to Ellie-May

Awesome guitar riffs and effects also. Like blues meets psychedelic, sounds really cool. The vocals effect is interesting as well, like old time singin in a can. Nice panning of the main vocals from the harmonies. Catchy tune is rockin!! Definitely potential here in so many markets! Keep up the good work!

Lyrics

Gonna tell you all a story
About a girl called Nell
She took the neighbour's cat one night and put it down the well

Well, well
That naughty little Nell
And if she don't repent
She's going straight to hell

Early in the morning
Before her folks awoke
She put a catfish in their bed
They couldn't see the joke

Well, well
That naughty little Nell
And if she don't repent
She's going straight to hell

Put salt into my coffee
Sugar on my meat
If I catch that little brat, I'm gonna warm her seat

Well, well
That naughty little Nell
And if she don't repent
She's going straight to hell

And when we were a-courting
We walked a country mile
She flashed her big brown eyes at me and smiled a loving smile

Well, well
My pretty little Nell
Now, she ain't heaven sent
But I love that little girl

So in a very short while
She was my bride to be
We couldn't get inside the church
She'd stole the Preacher's key

Well, well
My naughty little Nell
And if she don't repent
No, if she don't repent
Said, she ain't heaven sent
She's going straight to hell
