Song Description

About a promiscuous girl, called Ellie-May.

Story Behind the Song

Deliberate attempt at country/southern rock. Wanted to write something jokey. I asked Ray Brookes to lay down some blues harp, which he kindly did. Ray is on site with some superb music. Check him out.

Here is a classic boy meets girl and writes a song about all of her loveliness. This song blends elements of country with rock with some tasty harmonica and guitar solos. There are lots of country subjects that get mentioned here which gives the song a distinctively rural feel. Nice idea and execution!

What a cool fusion of americana and electronic music. Tune is lyrically humorous, and I can tell you enjoyed performing it.

Lyrics

Ellie-May had pig-tailed hair
Made the boys all stop and stare
She looked innocent and sweet
But chased the boys like a bitch on heat!

They all wanna play with sweet Ellie May
They all wanna play with sweet Ellie May

And when I see her walking past
Just wanna grab her by her....arm
Goodbye Buck, I'm off in my truck
Gonna give Ellie-May a damned good......time

I just wanna play with sweet Ellie-May
I just wanna play with sweet Ellie-May

Her Pa got home and found us in bed
Put a shotgun to my head
I could see the sort of shit I was in
I ran away just to save my skin

I just wanna play with sweet Ellie-May
I just wanna play with sweet Ellie-May

Her Pa came gunning after me
The rest is ancient history
A shotgun wedding. No honeymoon
Now I'm dancin' to a different tune

Now I want the World to see
There is just Ellie-May and me
But I got home just the other day
I Caught her dancin' with a feller called Ray!

GodDamnit child!
I'm gonna git my gun
You better run
