Story Behind the Song

Johnny Cash in Scotland

Lyrics

He sang all across the land, he sang to me and you
His "Ring Of Fire" sure did inspire and "Folsom Prison Blues"
He played lots of dates across the United States
New York, Seattle and Dallas
But his happiest day was when he played
Falkland Palace

People came from far and near to see him perform
He went to Folsom on his lonesome
And the reception was oh so warm
Some people thought that he ought not
To sing for cons... too brash and callous
But no one had a dig the day he played the gig
At Falkland Palace

Chorus

When the rumours were rife he would play in Fife
It was the stuff of legends right enough
And some thought it would never come to pass

Strange as it seems it was no dream
The memory will forever last
The day Falkland hosted Johnny Cash

Instrumental

Verse

Controversial all his life
Highs and lows through his career
But no one questions the legacy
Of this pioneer
He faced derision for life decisions
Encountered bile and malice
But it all went right the night he played
Falkland Palace

Chorus 2

He was born and raised the American way
With black suits and cowboy boots
He very much espoused the American life

But he always yearned to return
To where his forefathers toiled
And in 1981 had the night of his life

When the Man In Black played Falkland Palace, Fife

Strange as it seems it was no dream
The memory will forever last
The day Falkland hosted Johnny Cash
